Sometimes you need a simple, cute craft that you can make while watching your favorite TV show. This burlap wreath is just that… simple with fun results! I made it while watching an episode of How I Met Your Mother (don’t you just love that show??). It hung in my guest bedroom until my lovely Grandma spotted it and insisted on taking it home with her! So now it hangs in her sun room and I get to see it at holidays and she loves telling all her friends that I made it and I love that she loves that!
For this Wreath you’ll need the following. I found it all at Michaels while they were having a killer sale!
- Wire Wreath Frame (mine was 10″ but you can use whatever size you want)
- Burlap Ribbon
- Smaller Coordinating Ribbon (mine had words on it)
- Burlap Colored Pipe Cleaners
- Hot Glue Gun
- Bird Accent
- Marker (to color bird accent)
Making the Burlap Wreath
To make this, you start by taking the burlap ribbon and wiring to the frame using pipe cleaners. I poked the pipe cleaners through the ribbon creating a folded pattern as I went and tied up the pipe cleaners on the back of the wreath frame. The folds cover up the pipe cleaners. Here’s what it looks like from behind:
From there, I used my hot glue gun to add the wordy ribbon on top of the burlap ribbon in the middle and with the same folded pattern. Make sure you have something under your work station since glue can get through pretty easily. Sorry, I didn’t take a picture of this step.
Next, I used a marker to “paint” my cute little wooden bird. That part was super simple and relaxing. Then I glued the bird on to the ribbon and I was done!!
